Season for the ages!

If you turn on any sports station at the moment almost all the content is either about Urban and OSU, the NFL, Lebron, and or any number of sports related content while Major League Baseball has entered the dog days of summer and except for deadline coverage has been put on the back burner. However, this season is progressing towards being one of the best baseball seasons of all time and deserves your attention.

The Boston Red Sox are currently on pace for 108 victories which would be the most wins in a season since the ’01 Mariners. Trailing them by 6 and half games, my floundering Yankees at 68-39. Which happens to be the 2nd best record in baseball. The defending World Series champion Astros are not far behind at 69-41! Three teams in one league with the best records in baseball! Over to the National League where there may not be any world beaters, but there are currently 8 teams vying for the 2 wild card spots all within 4.5 games of each other! This includes the supposedly too young and nowhere near competitive teams in Atlanta and Philadelphia.

On top of the many teams who are in playoff contention, we have guys like Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez battling against one another and with Mike Trout for AL MVP. In the National League there is the Max-Scherzer ongoing argument of whether a pitcher should be eligible for MVP as Mad Max Scherzer is dominating on the mound and hitting almost .300! We have rookies like Gleyber Torres and Ronald Acuna Jr. living up to all the hype. Let us not forget about the preseason phenom Shohei Ohtani who has been everything we were expecting and maybe even better.

Looking at the surprise teams, success of the highly touted rookies, the individual performances, and the magnitude of teams in playoff contention, 2018 may well go down as the best baseball season ever! America’s pastime is alive and well!
